12 of 12 for May 2009

My amazingly cool Aunt Miggy died on the 11th, so since my mind was with her, I felt strange documenting this 12th. It was a busy, surreal day—which won’t necessarily be evident from the photos. But since this is more of a journal than anything else, I’m going to be glad to have this set as a touchstone.

The SquamDogs had an early breakfast,

…and I skipped the gym this morning to go work on the incoming freshmen/parents PowerPoint that I’d promised to get done for tonight.

I have bus duty this week… I make it my own by playing Wal-Mart greeter, saying to as many people as I can: “Good morning and welcome to school.”

A student decided she wanted to get a picture of me teaching for my 12 of 12. Today in French IV I was going over the present participle.

In French III, we were playing a musical chairsy vocab game called “Levez-vous si vous avez…”

Here a couple of my seniors were looking at the Guidance Department’s suessical “Places You’ll Go” bulletin board that celebrates their plans for next year.

Every year after the AP exam, my seniors make a movie. This is a screenshot of the day’s filming.

Between school and the evening Freshman Orientation, I went to the dentist… and had a bit of nitrous with my fillings. I got this picture in just as I was getting silly.

Aferward, I had time to fuzzily stumble to a few urban caches in Concord.

The evening PowerPoint went off fairly smoothly, given my state of mind, but I forgot to get a picture of the event.

I grabbed this shot arriving home mainly to serve as a “Before” for next month’s “After”.

Lucky man that I am, dinner was waiting for me when I got home. We’ve recently discovered the succulence of steelhead. And we’re still not clear on whether it’s trout, salmon, or both.

We finished the evening with the Live Biggest Loser finale. P was rooting for Mike, while I was rooting for Tara… so of course Helen won. Ah well. They all deserve major kudos… I had trouble enough losing 25 pounds—they look like different people altogether.

So, yup. I was right. The surrealness of the day doesn’t shine through at all. But that’s okay. It’ll stay with me.

Sorry to hear about your Aunt Miggy. I’m sure it was a surreal day for you.

I think the Wal-Mart greeter thing is hilarious. What kind of reactions do you get?

Present participle — bring back memories of your friend from the France trip? ;) I’m a little confused about the “SPOR(sp?) / GANGLIA / RENE” thing though.

“Musical chairsy” is a sadly underused adjective.

French movie! How’s it going this year? How does it compare to the 2005 / 2006 movies? I still regret that, after all the time we spent getting the ’05 footage off the school servers, I had to delete it from my computer because it took up an absurd amount of space.

Tell me — is semi-drugged geocaching even better than sober geocaching?

According to Google, a steelhead is the salt water form of a rainbow trout.
